In our flip-flopping between holiday cottages while we wait to move into our new home in the Trossachs, we found a place on Loch Tay that we could stay in for over three weeks. That meant no more Saturday travelling for a bit, so this Sunday we decided to check out some of the nearby Munros.

We went to bed with a plan to get up early, take two cars and do all seven in the Lawers range. That quickly changed to just the two westerly summits when we woke up feeling pretty tired (it’s been a long few weeks!).

Still, we got out of the house early and made our way up the road to the start point of the walk. It was misty as we drove along the main road, but soon after turning up towards Lochan na Láirige we rose above the clouds into beautiful sunrise colours.

We’d planned to start with the shorter Meall a’ Choire Lèith, but got a little lost in the peat bog, and it ended up being easier to follow the fence posts up Meall Corranaich. A short slog later, we were at the top, where we met some friendly solo hikers and tried to decide whether to attempt Beinn Ghlas.

Cloud was rolling over the ridge between An Stuc and Ben Lawers, so it was tempting to try for a different angle for a photograph. But after an early sandwich, we agreed we’d come back for Beinn Ghlas when we tackle Ben Lawers.

I pointed out Ben Ledi, Ben Vorlich, Beinn Each and Stob Binnein to Kerry before we set off across the ridge to our second, and last, Munro of the day.

It looked pretty straightforward, but I was really struggling for the last 100m or so of ascent before we reached the top. Thankfully, we were rewarded with incredible views over to the Tarmachan Ridge as clouds rolled through the glen below.

A great morning of cloud inversions and sunshine. I think we’re going to enjoy living here…
